Turkey Bowl Tuesday (Free Turkey Giveaway)
On Tuesday November 22nd, 2016, Support The Port ended their “Holiday Hope Dealer Can Food Drive”, with “Turkey Bowl Tuesday” in which citizens received free turkeys. Support The Port, On The Edge Barber shop and other community volunteers and advocates joined together to provide 150 Wilmington families free turkeys for this Thanksgiving season.
The drive started at 11:00am in front of On The Edge Barbershop (address) with people standing in line in front of the shop as early as 9am. The event was met with an overwhelming response that within one hour 100 turkeys were passed. . With a long line of remaining families, so inspired bystanders purchased additional turkeys at nearby grocery stores to give to the eager and grateful families. Families left with 12-16lb turkeys and a smile on their face. The giveaway ended around 2pm.
With the success of this event, Support The Port & On the Edge Barbershop are planning to conduct this for 2017. Support The Port is now collecting toys for their annual Toy Drive.
